Uttarakhand Yatra 2024

The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages for Hindus, encompassing four significant pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand, India. These four sites are:

• Badrinath: Situated in the Chamoli district, Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the Char Dhams. The temple here is believed to be one of the 108 Divya Desams, which are sacred shrines mentioned in the works of the Alvars (saints).
• Kedarnath: Located in the Rudraprayag district, Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and is situated near the source of the Mandakini River.
• Gangotri: Situated in the Uttarkashi district, Gangotri is the source of the River Ganges and is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. It is located at an altitude of 3,100 meters in the Himalayas.
• Yamunotri: Located in the Uttarkashi district, Yamunotri is the source of the River Yamuna and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The temple is situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters.

The Char Dham Yatra is considered highly auspicious, and completing it is believed to wash away sins and lead to salvation (moksha). The yatra typically starts from Yamunotri and proceeds to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally, Badrinath. Pilgrims often undertake this journey during the summer months, when the weather is conducive for travel.

The yatra involves trekking through rugged terrain and facing various weather challenges, but the spiritual rewards are believed to outweigh the physical hardships.
