The Sar pass is in Parvati Valley of Kullu district of Pradesh. Sar, in the local dialect, means a lake. Trekking, across the path from Tila Lotni to Biskeri Ridge, one has to pass by a small, frozen lake (Sar) and therefore the name Sar Pass Trek emerged. The trail takes you through ordination of picturesque grasslands and forests conjugated with steep rocky terrain and snow patches. Trek route emerges from Kasol and goes through Grahan, Ratta Pani, Nagaru and Barsheni.

Sar Pass Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kasol

Arrive at Kasol Base Camp on your own by morning and complete the registration. An orientation session will be given by the chief organizer in the evening. It will cover the information like rucksack packing, marching/walking technique and general awareness about the trek route. Take acclimatization walk around the base camp in the evening at around 5 PM. Have your dinner and stay overnight at Kasol Base Camp.

Day 2: Drive to central Kasol and Trek to Grahan village (4-5 hours)

Wake up to the beautiful Himalayan sunrise at  Base Camp. Have breakfast and drive to the centre of Kasol to start your exciting trek! Your trek starts from Kasol town centre. The easy trail which is frequently used by locals will take you to through pine forests. In a couple of hours, you will be able to cover much of the distance as the trail is easy to climb. After reaching the Grahan Nahal, the trail becomes rocky and steep. The locals say that the Rhododendron petals can be eaten whole and the syrup can be mixed with water to make a refreshing drink. You can definitely try that when in the Himalayas!  The steep climb of an hour will take you to your destination for the day. Reach Grahan Village by evening and freshen up. Have your dinner and stay overnight in the camps.

Day 3: Grahan to Min Thach (4-5 hours)

In the morning we climb towards the north of camping ground at Grahan. Villagers can be seen using this path for Min Thach. After walking for a while, one can see Min Thach, Nagaru, and Sar Top on the mountain to the right. The trail also becomes steeper and leads into the woods. The slope becomes steeper and the path is confusing in some places. Cross the lush green forest and reach Min Thatch. Admire the Chanderkhani stretch and many more ranges from the campsite at Min Thatch. Have your dinner and stay overnight at the camps.

Day 4: Mung Thach to Nagaru (4-6 hours)

Trek from Mung Thach to Nagaru is a short but difficult part. The slope falls steeply to the valley. After crossing steep slope for a couple of hours, one finally reaches Nagaru campsite. Facing north, one can see magnificent mountains across the Parvati valley. See the small glittering lights of the Manikaran town as the night sets in. Night is very cold due to the chilling wind. It is advisable to sleep early to avoid cold and the next day involves an early start. Stay overnight at the campsite.

Day 5: Nagaru to Biskeri Thach via Sar Pass (6-8 hours)

Next day we have to make an early start, as the climb is steep through the snow. Sar pass and the elevated peaks of the Tosh valley are now visible. As one reaches the top, the view is exhilarating.Soak in the views and beauty of the place and spend some time there. After that the slide is the most fun and completely safe as long as some precautions are taken. The slide takes one as far as a kilometer to a gentler slope of the valley. Valley arrives after walking for an hour from Sar Pass. We will then continue the trek through some dense rhododendron bushes towards Biskeri Thach campsite. Overnight stay in tents at Biskeri Thach.

Day 6: Biskeri Thach to Kasol base camp. (4-5 hours)

Trek from Mung Thach to Nagaru is a short but difficult part. The slope falls steeply to the valley. After crossing steep slope for a couple of hours, one finally reached Biskeri presents a sublime view of the pine forests, the majestic mountains and the lovely grasslands. From Biskeri we will descend towards Pulga village. The descend is easy and takes around 4-5 hours to reach Pulga. Then you will be dropped at Kasol and your amazing trek to the Sar pass concludes here.
