Kanha Tiger Reserve

Kanha National Park is among the largest National Parks located in Central India. Found in the Maikal range of Satpudas in the Balaghat and Mandla districts of the Madhya Pradesh. The park has a mind-blowing landscape as it features dense bamboo, stunning grassy meadows, and sal forest. Kanha National Park in 1879 became a reserved forest. Kanha Tiger Park declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1933. Park divided into two parts. Core zone measuring around 941 square kilometers and Buffer zone measuring approximately 1067 square kilometers. The total area the tiger reserve covers are about 2000 square kilometers. 

Kanha Tiger Park was the ancestral land of the Baiga and Gond Tribes. You are also going to find some of the tribes of these kingdoms that still reside in the region. You should also keep in mind that the park closed on Wednesday afternoons and closed during the monsoon season. The peak season at the park is from October to June.

Kanha Tiger Reserve Itinerary

Day One - Welcome to Kanha and First Evening Safari 

Welcome to Madhya Pradesh, our private car will transfer you from Jabalpur or Katni to Kanha National Park. Once you get to your resort, you can merely check-in and relax. Enjoy your lunch, and get prepared for your first evening tiger safari at Kanha. You will then be conveyed back to the resort in the evening to eat your dinner and also to relax.

Day Two - Excitement continues two tiger safari today 

You will leave for the second Wildlife Safari early in the morning. You can take your breakfast first before you go for the safari, or you can save time by taking your breakfast with you on the safari. You will be returned to your resort to eat lunch after sightseeing. After lunch, you will then go for the 3rd Wildlife Safari and then back in the evening for dinner and rest.

Day Three - Last morning Tiger Safari and We depart with happy memories 

You will go for your 4th Wildlife Safari early in the morning after breakfast and then return in the afternoon. You will then check out from the resort while you then enjoy mouth-watering lunch before you leave for Jabalpur or Katni by private car.

 

 

Biodiversity Kanha Tiger Reserve 

Kanha National park has a serene and calm landscape surrounded by plateaus, hillocks, dense vegetation, and meadows. The park houses a moist mixed deciduous forest as it features Tendu, Sal, Arjun, Bamboo, Lendia, and Jamun. You are going to find more than 1000 species of flowering plants in the park. Kanha Tiger Park saved the Barasingha or Swamp Deer from extinction by providing a safe habitat.

The park houses the Royal Bengal Tiger, and it offers tourists diverse biodiversity, and about 32 mammalian species of animals found in the park. Some of the animals that you are going to see on a safari are Slothbears, Leopards, Porcupines, Nilgai, Spotted deer, Wild dogs, Barasingha, and Jackals.

Kanha Tiger Reserve is also an excellent destination for bird spotters as you will find about 300 species of birds here. The most common birds that you can find at the park are Cattle Egret, Black Ibis, Drongos, Bee-eaters, Crested Serpent Eagle, Blossom-Headed Parakeets, Little Grebes, Common Teal, Grey Hornbill, Little Grebes, Indian roller, Minivets, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Pied Hornbill, Pigeon, Peafowl, Woodpecker, Kingfishers, Red Jungle Fowl, Vultures and more. You are also going to find reptiles and amphibian diversity in the park, such as rock python, monitor lizard, and so on.

 

Famous Tigers in the Kanha park

1. Munna - Male Tiger 

Munna is considered as the most popular and photographed the tiger in the park. It is easily recognizable with his facial markings of letters C, A, and T found on his forehead. The tiger is about 15 years old, and it is also called Langda or the Meadow male. You can easily find him in the meadows, but his territory ranges from Naktighati to Chhattapathara.

2. Choti Mada

This tigress was first seen in January 2008, and it is also known as the Bisanpura female. She is about eleven years and the daughter of the chain male and Badimada. The tiger is calm and friendly, and you can find her in Bisanpur meadows.

3. Nak Kata

Nak Kata very shy and ferociousness; this tiger is old now. The tiger is ferocious and also the dominant male in the park, and it got its name from the massive scar on his face and nose after fighting for territory with Munna. Some of the other popular tigers found in the park are BadiMada, Kingfisher Male, Umarpani female, and Kankata male, etc.

 

Safari gates and booking

Safari vehicles can quickly enter the park through the four entry gates located at the park. The gates are listed below.

If you are planning to book for a safari, you will need to do it online through the Maharashtra booking portal or the Madhya Pradesh. You can explore the park in the morning and evening, but the safari timing usually changes based on the seasons, sunrise, and sunset in the region.

 

Morning Jeep: 6.00 am to 11.00 am entry allowed until 8.00 am

Afternoon Jeep: 3.00 pm until 6.00 pm entry allowed until 4.30 pm

 

Things to know

Each of the gate at the park offers a safari permit to explore an exclusive area of the park, and no vehicle is allowed to change zones while going on a safari. Safari must ensure that the entry and exit gate for the car is the same. On tour, the gypsy charges or the vehicle charges are usually different, and you will have to pay separately.

Tourists prohibited from getting down from the vehicle while on a safari. Your guide also knows the rules and regulations for tiger safari, and it is best to follow his instructions.

You will need to show identification documents such as driving license, passport, pan card, and so on at the gate entry. If you are a foreigner, you will need to show the original passport before you can be allowed in.

 

Weather in Kanha National Park 

It is scorching and dry in the summer, and the temperatures range from 40-45 degrees while it is usually cold in the winter, with temperatures between 4-5 degrees. The Monsoon period is typically from June to September.
