Overview/Itinerary

Hampta Pass Trek

The Hampta Pass Trek, located in the beautiful Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, is a renowned trekking route famous for its diverse topography and lush greenery. The trek offers a unique blend of verdant meadows, dense pine forests, and barren, high-altitude deserts. It attracts tourists for several reasons, one of which is its moderate difficulty, making it accessible to both inexperienced and seasoned trekkers. The highest point of the trek, Hampta Pass, stands at an altitude of 14,000 feet (4,270 meters), offering spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

As the trek progresses, it leads trekkers into the Spiti Valley, known for its starkly beautiful landscapes, which are in sharp contrast to the lush surroundings of Kullu. The journey becomes even more enchanting with opportunities to interact with the local Gaddi shepherds, enjoy alpine camping, and experience river crossings. The best time to embark on the Hampta Pass Trek is from June to October, as this period offers the most favorable weather conditions and ensures the region is easily accessible. We depart from Delhi around 6 PM in an AC vehicle, beginning our journey to Manali.

Day 2: Manali Sightseeing

We will reach Manali by morning and check in to the hotel. After getting refreshed and allotted rooms, we head out for local sightseeing. Our visits include the Hadimba Devi Temple and the Tibetan Monastery. In the evening, we explore Mall Road and then return to the hotel for a cozy evening with dinner, a bonfire, and music. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Drive from Manali to Jobra | Trek to Chika

After breakfast, we check out from the hotel and head towards Jobra, the starting point of the trek. The scenic drive lasts around 2 hours. Upon reaching Jobra, we begin our trek through a pine forest, which lasts for about an hour until we reach the Rani River Valley. The trail then takes us through the valley for another 2 hours to reach the Chika Campsite, where we arrive by 4 PM. After relaxing, enjoy the beautiful sunset at the campsite. Dinner and overnight stay will be in dome tents.

Day 4: Trek from Chika to Balu Ka Ghera

Post breakfast, we start our trek to Balu Ka Ghera. The trail includes a mix of gradual ascents and descents, taking about 5 hours to reach the campsite. We will cross a stream along the way before continuing with a flat walk after the river crossing. We reach the campsite by the evening and spend the night in camps.

Day 5: Trek from Balu Ka Ghera to Sheagoru via Hampta Pass

After breakfast, we start our trek towards Sheagoru, passing through a steep ascent to reach the Hampta Pass at 14,100 ft, the highest point of the trek. While the ascent is challenging, the view from the top is rewarding. The descent is trickier than the ascent, but the second half of the trek involves a flat walk to Sheagoru, which we reach in a couple of hours. Overnight stay in camps.

Day 6: Sheagoru to Chattru | Drive to Chandratal

Today’s trek is the easiest as we descend towards Chattru. We begin by crossing the cold Sheagoru River and continue on the right side of the river for around 3 hours until we reach Chattru. The drive to Chandratal takes about 4-5 hours with a stop at Batal for a photo at the famous Chacha Chachi ka Dhaba. The road is rough, adding to the thrill of driving on one of the world’s most treacherous roads. Upon reaching Chandratal Lake, also known as Moon Lake, we enjoy its serene beauty, with clear blue waters surrounded by mountains, offering breathtaking views of the CB-12 peak.
