About Flamingo Boat Safari

Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary is located at Airoli Creek is a network of interconnected inlets in the shoreline adjacent to the Arabian Sea through which water from the Eastern Suburbs of Mumbai flow, primarily comprising Bhandup pumping Station and Airoli-Nahur Bridge.

The majority of the creek encompasses two sections. The westernmost part stretches from Ghodbunder to Thane. The more significant part is between Thane and Trombay (Uran). This large section is where the Ulhas River meets the Arabian Sea.

Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary

In the area of the Airoli Creek, the Great Indian Flamingo reserve is a vital area for migratory and wading birds, making it an ideal habitat for various avian species. The flamingos who remain here make this a perfect place to call home because of its perfect climate and ample food supply.

The area around the Airoli Creek has played host to some very notable bird species, including flamingos. Flamingos are tropical birds that move to warmer locations during winter, so, interestingly, they call this region home! The number of various migratory and wading birds inhabiting the coastal area is quite large, so there is always something new or unusual to see on any given day here.

The Maharashtra government has announced a range of land along the coastal region as a flamingo national park. The population of flamingos in the location known as the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary is estimated as approximately 5,000 plus birds. It consists of 794 hectares of the water body and 896 hectares of mangrove forest area. Thane creek was created by a seismic fault that runs from Thane to Uran.

  • Birdwatching should be enjoyed by binoculars and the fun is to spot them, identify them and if you still have some time with the bird photograph them.
  • Never enter the forest with an intention of spotting a single species, it will only disappoint you. The forest is a gift packet with a lot to surprise with. Listen to our naturalist for more wonderful experience.

  • We explore everything we find uncommon and need to be explained.
